Several complex vascular diseases range from uncomfortable to severely impacting your life. Vascular conditions affect the circulatory system’s blood vessels, including those diseases that arise in your blood and lymph vessels and those disorders that disrupt your blood flow. Vascular health is incredibly important for all.

Different types of vascular diseases can affect the circulatory system of the body. Some of these disorders are more deadly than others, while some can prove to be inconvenient, such as Raynaud’s phenomenon. However, it is essential to remember that even benign vascular conditions can lead to severe complications if not treated on time.   

Varicose veins, for example, are bulgy, large veins that are very prominent on the skin surface. Treating them prevents the development of any life-threatening complications. However, without treatment, several health-related issues can develop. Raynaud’s phenomenon is not as severe as the above conditions. It can make your fingers and toes cold, which can be a source of discomfort and inconvenience, but a vascular doctor should still look at it.

Other vascular conditions include atherosclerosis, peripheral artery disease, and deep vein thrombosis. Veins, arteries, or vessels carrying lymph can be affected due to vascular diseases. Some of these diseases can disturb blood flow. When enough blood does not reach body tissues, those tissues can die due to a lack of oxygen and nutrition.

Yes, vascular diseases can be prevented. There are some preventive measures you can take to avoid the development of vascular disorders in your body.

  • Adapting to a healthy lifestyle which includes eating a heart-healthy diet and indulging in exercise regularly 
  • Quitting smoking 
  • Controlling the blood sugar levels if you are diabetic 
  • Keeping your blood pressure and cholesterol levels in the normal range 
  • Avoid sitting for extended periods. Walking around if there is a need to sit for hours due to school or work. Wearing compression stockings and stretching legs regularly when you are traveling
